Chess Rules - The Rook
The Rook is the heavy siege weapon in your army. He is able to powerfully smash through opponents' defenses. He also acts as a guardian of your own fortress, preventing enemy entry.
Where the Rooks Start
Each side starts with 2 Rooks.
The Rooks are placed in the corners.
How the Rook Moves
The Rook moves in a straight line in any direction - horizontally or vertically, forwards or backwards.
The Rook can move any number of squares, but not off the edge of the board.
The Rook can't jump over friendly or opposing pieces.
How the Rook Captures
The Rook captures opposing pieces by moving onto their square and replacing them.
Special Moves
The Rook can take part in a special defensive move called Castling. We'll explain this later.
