Chess Rules - The Rook

The Rook is the heavy siege weapon in your army. He is able to powerfully smash through opponents' defenses. He also acts as a guardian of your own fortress, preventing enemy entry.

How the Rook Moves

The Rook moves in a straight line in any direction - horizontally or vertically, forwards or backwards.

The Rook can move any number of squares, but not off the edge of the board.

The Rook can't jump over friendly or opposing pieces.

The Rook captures opposing pieces by moving onto their square and replacing them.

Special Moves

The Rook can take part in a special defensive move called Castling. We'll explain this later.
